This Saturday we went to Temple Square in Salt Lake City for the wedding of a good friend, Erik Gunson. It was Mariah's first whole day away from home. Everyone at the wedding thought she was the cutest thing and couldn't believe how small she was! We ended up forgetting the stroller and had to carry her around in her heavy car seat all day! But all in all it was a very fun day. Mariah liked being outside.

Mariah is 1 Month Old

Mariah is a month old! She is now 19 inches long and weighs 7 lbs. She's working on lifting her head, though she absolutely hates her tummy practice time. She's still eating about every 2-3 hours, day and night. We're anxiously awaiting the day she'll sleep more through night, for our own sanity. It's so hard constantly only getting sleep in 2-hour increments.
It has definitely been the hardest but most rewarding month of our lives. Mariah is such a blessing and trouble at the same time. It is so amazing to see her look around and know that she is trying to figure everything out. We can already tell she's going to be an amazing person!

Our Little Peanut

Just wanted to post some more recent pictures of Mariah, since she's getting so big! As of Thursday, Oct 9, at 3 weeks old, she weighs 6 lbs, 3 oz and is 18.1 inches long.
She is now 3 1/2 weeks old. She still wakes up twice a night (every 3 hours) to eat, which isn't fun, but we're getting through it. She is starting to discover her own voice and every now and then makes these "ooh" and "aah" noises that are sooo cute.
She'll be turning one month on Saturday!

Mariah's Clean Bill of Health
- Jaundice-free....check
- Maintaining weight....check
- Not terrorizing her parents as much through the night....kinda check
- Staying absolutely gorgeous...double check.
Just to update you, Mariah is in perfectly good health as of this afternoon.
When Mariah was born, the doctor was concerned that she might be jaundiced. Her bilirubin levels (which indicate jaundice) were borderline high (at 14 or 15) and they would have to give her light treatment to get them down. We had them checked yesterday at UVRMC and now they well within normal (at 11 or so), which makes her jaundice-free!
We also went to the pediatrician to check her weight level. As most of you know, Mariah was born at a shocking 4 lbs, 11 oz (a little peanut). By the time she left the hospital two days later, she was at only 4 lbs, 4 oz (losing water weight after birth is completely normal). The doctors were concerned that she might start losing real body weight because babies in her weight class have a harder time maintaining their weight. He was talking to me about possibly supplementing her diet with formula. But of course, Mariah is the most talented baby in the world and worked really hard with her mommy to eat lots and lots over these past 2 days. Today she weighed in at 4 lbs, 7 oz. The pediatrician was very impressed that she gained so much weight, halfway back to her birth!. It usually takes babies 2 weeks to get to their birth weight after losing their post-birth water weight, but it's taken Mariah only 2 days to get halfway there. The doctor was also confident that she wouldn't have any sort of growing issues later down the road. She just likes being peanut-sized!
To sum it up, Mariah is amazing! Don't let her size fool you. She is even letting us put her on somewhat of a routine during the night time. Last night, I swear I got at least 4 or 5 hours of sleep. She's the best little baby in the world.

Little Scare
Everyone came to visit and Mariah felt left out so she decided to play with the cord! Her heart rate kept dropping with every contraction and the doctor was worried there was an issue with the umbilical cord. He is having Veronica on extra oxygen and made her get into some acrobatic positions for Mariah to change position or for the cord to move in a different place. Everything looks to be back on track now and we have restarted the pitocin. But your prayers would be appreciated.
Lots of Down Time
Things are still looking great. The epidural is awesome, highly recommend it! Now I'm just sitting and waiting for myself to progress more. The nurse checked me at 12:45 and I was 5 cm and 80% effaced. She said that once I'm 100% effaced, I should start progressing a cm an hour. Right now, contractions are 2-3 minutes apart and pretty potent. Thankfully I don't feel them anymore!
