Disneyland March 2010

I have been on a 3-month hiatus from blogging. I'm so sorry to all 3 of the readers of this blog :) But don't fret, I'm working on a massive update (which I will just post-date and act like I was updating this whole time...). Here's a little post to tie you over until all that is online.

A New Food Blog

I know this is a little premature, as New Years resolutions are just around the corner, but I wanted to get a head start! I have started a new blog called Veronica's Diet. Lately I have been reading more and more about how crazy unhealthy people eat in this country, including myself! So this will be my blog journal on how I am progressing (or not progressing) with my personal battle for healthier eating. Please visit and leave some love!

Just Ordered My Free Xmas Cards!

I just wanted to update you all on the offer for 50 free holiday cards from Shutterfly that I wrote about about earler this week. I got my promo code via email today and I just ordered them. I'm super excited because they are super cute!

I think the offer is still going on but I would suggest doing the promotion soon. You have till Dec 31, 2010 to use the promo code. Have fun!

iPhones!

The odds were in our favor! Both Brian and I got our iPhones one glorious day early! I am Mac bliss right now. This pic was taken on the phone, otherwise I would have shown you the actual phone, not the box. Who wants to FaceTime??

On another slightly unrelated note, Eclipse is less than a week away. This is too much excitement for one week. :)

I Started a Genealogy Blog

So over the past couple days I reopened my curiosity for family history. I recently met a cousin of mine, Stacey, and she gave me a TON of new information. Stacey (from Ohio where my family is from) is an avid genealogist herself. She gave me a bunch of information for my mother's mother's side (the Thomas family).

Resolutions

Happy New Year! I'm sure this post will be just a little cliched but as it's New Year's Day, I thought I was due for a little reflection on this past year. I wanted to evaluate how well I did on last year's resolutions and make new ones for the year.

Merry Christmas 2009

I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
Since members of my family were having such a hard time right now, we decided to forgo sending out Christmas cards this year. Instead, we spent the money we would have used on postage on a worthier cause. And we are sending you a Christmas blog post instead!

Yeah yeah

I know, I KNOW. I have a lot to blog about: ward Christmas party, our 2nd annual fondue party, our power going out, Brian's various hair cuts, my sister's situation, and more. Not to mention, we are going to Boston for Christmas in THREE DAYS. I can't find our card reader, ergo no pictures. But I will update as soon as I have proof that any of this happened.

My Sister's Update

Hello all,

First off, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and donations to my sister Tanya. I wanted to share some more information on her situation.

I need your help!

So I normally wouldn't do this, but I know they are at the end of their options. I have no choice but to ask that the spirit of Christmas touch the hearts of whomever reads this post so that we can help someone in great need this holiday season.

Tooth Update #2 Tooth Extractions

For the sake of blogging, I documented my experiences with tooth extractions yesterday. I removed all of my first premorlars (the ones on the outside of my canine teeth) to make room for my teeth to move with braces

Big Carl VS Big Mac

Today I took life's ultimate test of loyalty: I tried Carl's Jr's new hamburger, the Big Carl. Claiming to have twice as much meat as the Big Mac, the Big Carl makes big claims over its competitors, as seen on the TV spots. Well, today I tried said burger, and here are my findings.

First sense: Smell.

It was glorious: char-broiled, cheese, warm buns. By smell alone, this burger could easily surpass the Big Mac. Its aroma seemed to be so much more authentic than any Big Mac I've ever had, like I had just been to a really good BBQ or to a non-fastfood chain burger place. My mouth is watering.

Second sense: Sight.

As you can tell in the photo, the Big Carl was not all it was cracked out to be. With soggy buns and lettuce and goopy cheese, the Big Carl did not make a great first impression. I was even turned off a little. It just fell apart in my hands. And I had to wipe my hands from all the grease permeating through every crevice of the patties. But like many say, never judge a book by its cover. I would not judge this burger by its buns (however soggy).

Third Sense: Taste

This is where the Big Carl excels. Just as its smell suggests, the Big Carl is everything advertised and more. It had the perfect arrangement of flavors. The balance of meat to cheese to buns to sauce was divine, even for me, who usually doesn't eat double-decker burgers. The third bun of the Big Mac just seems unnecessary after having this burger.

Fourth Sense: Feel

I just thought of this sense because as I am writing this blog entry, my stomach has started churning. Right now I feel like I just ate a cup of lard. I feel really gross. I guess the Big Carl wasn't such a great idea.

Lists

A good friend just posted a few lists on Facebook, so I thought I would make my own:

TOP 3 THING THAT CURRENTLY TICK ME OFF (not in any particular order):
  1. People asking about a second child--that's something between me, brian and God, NOT YOU. So buzz off, I don't ask you about YOUR personal issues.
  2. People asking if Mariah was premature--no she wasn't, she was just born super-small, no she won't always stay that way, and no I'm not worried about her catching up to being "normal", thank you very much!
  3. People talking to me in Spanish and/or thinking I'm Hispanic--yes, I know I don't LOOK half-black/half-white, but trust me, I am. I know these things. Sadly it just happened to me yesterday at Cafe Rio. I should just learn Spanish so I can tell them off in my "native tongue."

TOP 4 THINGS THAT I'M CURRENTLY GRATEFUL FOR (not in any particular order):
  1. Getting the heck out of Utah!--LA, here I come. I can't wait for warm beaches and central air conditioning.
  2. My cute little family--it's so fun playing house. I don't think I could have ever dreamed of having a better husband or baby. You both rock!
  3. My amazing friends that support me--thank you to those who are still around in Utah. It's sad to see everyone move on, but life has to start, right? I will really miss my mall walking buddies, you know who you are! I hope we all can keep in touch via blogging.
  4. Dental school-- I will soon get braces to fix my shark-mouth AND have a fab life ahead of me with Dr. Brian, DDS :)

Blog Battles: What is good etiquette?

Recently a friend posted a blog entry about how he thinks Facebook is bad. He gave very good reasons as to why he doesn't like it (1. it hurts our ability to communicate, 2. it's addicting, 3. it turns personal into publicity, 4. it destroys concepts of personal accountability, and 5. it can destroy relationships and families). Though I don't necessarily agree with all the points, his opinion is valid. And I think someone can have and post any opinion on their blog that they want to.

But sadly, he and his wife got quite a bit of flaque over it. What I want to know is what is the point of a blog? What is good etiquette when posting? One opinion is that people shouldn't post things that would cause conflict, only post happy things. I don't necessarily agree. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and if they feel so inclined to post about it, then there's nothing wrong with that because blogs are personal. There's even room for a little debate, just keep your feelings out of it.

What do you think? What is good blogging etiquette when it comes to posting your opinions on controversial stuff?
